Butterscotch

Butterscotch originated in Doncaster, England, around 1817, with Samuel Parkinson being a prominent early confectioner of the hard candy made from butter and brown sugar. The name's origin is debated, with theories suggesting it comes from the "scotch" meaning to "cut" or "score" the cooling candy, or the "scorch" from cooking the butter and sugar. To this day, barley sugar is enjoyed as a sweet, bringing joy in its simplicity.
