PROP: Chinese Woven Reed Gathering Basket

This stunning piece is a mid-20th century Chinese Woven Reed Gathering Basket with a bentwood handle attached with simple iron straps. Traditionally these baskets were used to transport food products to and from the fields and possibly also to transport clothes on laundry day. We used it in store for bulk product displays – imagine it filled with brightly foiled Easter eggs!

This beautiful Chinese farmer's basket was made circa 1950 -1959, and said to be from the Ningbo Zhejiang province. Perfect for a bohemian, country or rustic home as a decorative accent piece or for storage, such as a logs, blankets or magazines. Condition is good for its age, with some loose bindings on the top edge, not broken.
